The mighty Atlantic Ocean was about as ferocious as a pond today. Our normally prevailing easterly winds push the water to shore creating the waves we are so used to seeing. Westerly winds have just the opposite effect and on this day the winds were strongly from the west keeping the waves to a bare minimum. Ho-hum, more pond than ocean.
Surfers were sorely disappointed and if anyone was making their very first trip to the ocean they would have wondered what all the fuss was about the powerful ocean.
It was kind of a nice, calming change but if I had my druthers... I'd happily take a little more ocean action.
The gulls didn't seem to mind it though... easier fishing.
