Remember the song What a Difference a Day Makes?
In case you don't have it running through your brain like I do, here's the wonderful Dinah Washington version.
But that's not the point here.
What caused this tape loop in my head was the difference between yesterday (June 15) where it was HOT, HOT, HOT, humid and the air was full of smoke from nearby forest fires. Not even the smallest gasp of wind was stirring. You can see it in the haze around the sun and maybe even get the feeling of the heaviness of the air from the photo above. The ocean was flat and almost waveless, as if the air was so oppressive it could hardly move.
But just wait a day...
The very next day (June 16) a weather front was sitting just off the coast. Strong winds were from the northeast, thunderstorms were moving onshore and I was struck by how much it felt like fall. The ocean responded in kind and it was just plain thrilling. Oh yes, what a difference a day makes!
An exhilarating 24 little hours.
