Walter Lantz inspiration

Am I the only one old enough to remember Woody Woodpecker? "Ha-ha-ha-HA-ha, ha-ha-ha-HA-ha, it's the Woody Woodpecker song." Certainly creator Walter Lantz got his inspiration from these HUGE pileated woodpeckers which can grow up to 20 inches in length. Their loud drumming on a tree led me in their direction, but a close-up shot was nearly impossible. I only saw one at first, then the second joined in. I'm pretty sure this is indeed a male/female pair. A thrill at seeing them and a tune to carry around for a while... ha-ha-ha-HA-ha.

D, I adore your photography and trips on trails and walks on the beach with the peeps and the fantasy island aspect of your life. You are a lucky ducky and I am glad for that. I have become a birdwatcher too. It is funny to me that I thought my parents were sooo boring with their birdwatching! It is an acquired activity that comes with age I believe. My 2 main birds are the African Grey Parrots inside my house. Alpha as you know is a Congo female. I recently inherited my sister's Timneh Grey. He was wild-caught in the Congo and knows about elephants and rainforests and loves water showers. Not user friendly yet! My outdoor birds are yellow finchies and large western scrub jays who are quite blue and friendly. Our Oak tree attracts them and also the squirrels. I feed raw peanuts as peanut plants are far easier to pull out of the ground than those acorn-planted live oak trees. They are so drought resistant that even the wee ones have roots to China. Our Pacific beaches also have the peeps and many others. On land we have the kestrels, the eagles, the owls and many birds of prey. Osprey may qualify there. We also have the giant turkey vultures and the newly released Condors. I miss you deario. moi as usual

Anonnie-mouse back again. I must confess that I always whistled to Alpha the Woody-wood-pecker song. Now it is quite difficult to out-whistle the paco-cherrio who is a loud and rambuncious whistler from the rainforest and also a quite loud talker. Alpha speaks sotto voce and has now become almost silent except for our private conversations. She is the snobby large and beautiful girl and he is the first-grader (at least 30 years old) who can't keep his bottom in his chair. Over and out my friend.
